OPEN RECORDS REQUEST

Records maintained by the City of Ottawa may be public records open for
inspection and/or copying by the public. The Kansas Open Records Act

(KORA) provides for some records to be kept private. These exceptions

include personnel information of public employees, medical treatment

records, items protected by attorney-client privilege or the rules of evidence,

certain records containing personal information for census purposes, notes

and preliminary drafts, criminal investigation records, and other specific

records. For a complete list of exemption see K.S.A. 45-221.

The Kansas Open Records Act authorizes the City to charge fees for providing access

to or furnish copies of the public records. The fee may be requested in advance and includes the cost of staff time and cost of reproducing the record. A copy of the open records request form is found below.
