Transient Guest Tax (TGT) – City of Ottawa, Kansas

 

Beginning August 1, 2025, the City of Ottawa will self-administer its Transient Guest Tax (TGT). All hotels, motels, and tourist courts located within the city limits are required to collect and remit this tax on gross receipts from transient guests paying for sleeping accommodations.

Tax Rate

 

Due Dates & Filing

  • TGT reports and payments are due monthly, on or before the 25th of the month following the reporting period.

  • Example: August 2025 collections are due by September 25, 2025.

 

How to File & Pay

  1. Complete the Monthly Reporting Form:
    Download TGT Monthly Reporting Form (PDF)

  2. Mail or Deliver Payment:
    Make checks payable to City of Ottawa and mail or deliver to:
    City Clerk’s Office
    P.O. Box 60 (mail)
    101 S. Hickory St. (hand deliver)
    Ottawa, KS 66067

  3. Returned Checks:
    A $35 processing fee will be charged for any returned checks due to insufficient funds.

Enforcement & Penalties

Failure to submit payments on time may result in:

  • Interest charges at 10% per month

  • Penalties of 10%, 25%, or 50% depending on lateness or intent
