Ottawa Municipal Auditorium Board Application

4TH JUDICIAL CORRECTION ADVISORY BOARD 

LEGAL AUTHORITY: KSA 75-5297 

FUNCTION: The role of the 4th Judicial Correction Advisory Board is to review policies of the Department of Correction, particularly the Judicial Section, to oversee and advise on their operation and performance. 

MEETING: Quarterly



ACCESSIBILITY ADVISORY BOARD

LEGAL AUTHORITY:  City of Ottawa Ordinance No. 3835-13

3-year term, no residency requirement

(Charter Board 1, 2, and 3-year terms)

FUNCTION:  The role of the Accessibility Advisory Board is to advise and make recommendations to the City Commission on matters of accessibility in City buildings, properties and/or green spaces; to provide technical assistance to the City on matters related to the disabled population, to serve as advocates for citizens with disabilities; and to serve as a resource on policy and/or procedures for members of the City Commission and for City staff.

MEETING: No Less Than Quarterly

AIRPORT ADVISORY BOARD 

LEGAL AUTHORITY: City of Ottawa Ordinance No. 3776-11 

Four 2-year terms and two 3-year terms, 2 consecutive terms 

FUNCTION: The role of the Airport Advisory Board is to promote general and commercial aviation activities and interests in Ottawa; to effectively communicate the policies of the City to the aviation community, and to communicate information and advice from the Ottawa community and the aviation community to the City Commission; to seek means of more fully utilizing and improving aviation facilities in Ottawa; and to aid the City and users of the aviation facilities in Ottawa in obtaining and improving services subject to approval by the Governing Body. 

MEETING: Quarterly 

BAND BOARD 

LEGAL AUTHORITY: None 

3-year term 

FUNCTION: Plans and coordinates the activities of the City Band in conjunction with and on behalf of the City of Ottawa. 

MEETING: Conducted as needed, but no less than twice a year. 

BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS 

LEGAL AUTHORITY: KSA 12-701, City of Ottawa Code 1982, 5-401 

3 year term, 2 consecutive terms 

3 Members within the City Limits, 

2 members outside the City limits but within the Urban Growth Area (UGA)* 

FUNCTION: The role of the Board of Zoning Appeals is to hear appeals or requests for yard variances relating to zoning ordinances. 

MEETING: As called 

CONSTRUCTION BOARD OF APPEALS 

LEGAL AUTHORITY: KSA 12-1503, 

City of Ottawa Code 1982, 6-202, Adoption of Uniform Plumbing Code 

2 and 4 year terms, 2 consecutive terms 

No residency requirement, must work in the City of Ottawa 

FUNCTION: The role of the Construction Board of Appeals is to hear appeals or requests relating to building codes. 

MEETING: As called 

KMEA BOARD of DIRECTORS (Ottawa Representatives) 

LEGAL AUTHORITY: KSA 12-885 et seq 

FUNCTION: The role of the KMEA Board of Directors is to establish policy guidelines, plan for future electric needs, provide representation in various capacities, review and promulgate rules and regulations for municipal electric utilities and protect the interests of its member entities. 

LIBRARY BOARD 

LEGAL AUTHORITY: KSA 12-1222, City of Ottawa Municipal Code Chapter 5, Article III 

4-year term, 2 consecutive terms 

City Residency Requirement 

FUNCTION: The role of the Library Board is to establish policy, rules and regulations for the operation of the Library; to determine the purposes of the Library and secure funds to carry on the Library’s programming; to provide representation in various capacities; to assist with the preparation of the annual budget and know the programs and needs of the Library in relation to the community. 

MEETING: Fourth Wednesday, each month, 6:00 pm 

OTTAWA MUNICIPAL AUDITORIUM BOARD 



LEGAL AUTHORITY: None 

4-year term 

City Residency Requirement 

FUNCTION: The authority and duties of the board are to: 1. Advise the Auditorium Manager of groups which might be interested in using the Municipal Auditorium; 2. Advise the Auditorium Manager of what additional information and data should be gathered so as to attract conventions, touring companies, and other groups to use the Municipal Auditorium; 3. Advise the Auditorium Manager of additional attractions or events which might increase the utilization of the Municipal Auditorium; 4. Assist the Auditorium Manager in promoting the use of the Municipal Auditorium. 5. Direct all inquiries from persons or groups desiring to use the Municipal Auditorium to the Auditorium Manager. 6. Make reports to the Governing Body concerning the Municipal Auditorium activities at least twice yearly. 7. Make recommendations concerning the annual budget, including capital improvements to the Governing Body..

OTTAWA RECREATION COMMISSION 



LEGAL AUTHORITY: KSA 12-1901 et seq 

4-year term 

City Residency Requirement 

FUNCTION: The role of the Ottawa Recreation Commission is to improve and maintain the mental and physical health, happiness and well being of the citizens of the Ottawa community, which includes the Ottawa Unified School District 290 taxing district, through a well-planned program of organized constructive recreational activities. 

MEETING: Second Wednesday, each month, 6:30 pm 

PLANNING COMMISSION

LEGAL AUTHORITY: KSA 12-701, City of Ottawa Code, 1982, 5-401 

3-year term, 2 consecutive terms 

City Residency Requirement for five positions, 

6th and 7th positions must live outside City limits, but within 3 miles * 

FUNCTION: The role of the Planning Commission is to provide comprehensive planed community development through recommendations on annexation and rezoning requests. The Planning Commission should be a positive influence for guiding residential, commercial and industrial development. Members of the Planning Commission should be visionary and proactive in their deliberations. 

MEETINGS: Second Wednesday, each month, 7:00 pm; Last Wednesday, each month, 12:00 Noon 

TREE BOARD 

LEGAL AUTHORITY: None 

3-year term 

FUNCTION: Advises the City Commission on matters related to the trees within the City of Ottawa. 

MEETING: Conducted as needed, but no less than twice a year.
